Homeschooling with Autism

After almost two months in public kindergarten I decided to homeschool.  I was told from basically everyone that being on the spectrum she absolutely needed to be in school for learning social skills.  She was supposed to spend part of her day in the general ed class and part of the day with her special ed class.

For whatever reason it just wasn’t working.  She’s crazy smart and usually likes to show off what she knows… even if it means counting over and over and over and over…  you know the drill!  She stopped all of it.  She wasn’t confident anymore.  She even started stuttering so much I could barely understand her.

Despite advice to send her to school, I decided I know my daughter and she’s not learning social skills.  She’s shutting down.  I want my kid back!  That’s how I became a homeschooling mom.
